About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the senior Architect Technical Expert with responsibility for creating, designing, coordinating, reviewing, and providing technical and project leadership advice relative to all aspects of design, construction, Military, Civil Works, and Support for other projects. The senior Architect Technical Expert is recognized as the Districts top technical representative in the architectural area of responsibility.

Duties

Serve as SME, Architecture Section, Design Branch with responsibility for reviewing architecture design features of proposed designs for military or civil works projects. Evaluate and review work of the Architectural Section, in developing architectural studies, drawings, and narratives for design memoranda, layout, and related computations. Review and approves architectural design analysis, drawings and specifications for completeness, accuracy, suitability, and compliance with sound and economical design principles, and with Army, Air Force and Corps of Engineers criteria. Evaluate and respond to questions raised as a result of technical architectural review comments and ensures that design satisfies the intended project purpose.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Architect: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in architecture or in a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: (1) Related Curriculum - Degree in architectural engineering provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in statement A above, or (2) Experience: 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of any college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Serve as technical consultant for solutions to problems involving architecture. (2) Advises on the proper operation and maintenance of installed systems. (3) Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of special studies, investigations, and reports covering architecture problems. (4) Responsible for the preparation of preliminary construction and life cycle cost estimates based upon general plans, and quantity takeoffs for detailed cost estimates. OR Identifying the most economical and efficient solutions for architectural problems; 2) Designing large and complex architectural features; 3) Preparing contract documents such as, but not limited to specifications, Statements of Work (SOW) and cost estimates; 4) Reviewing architectural designs for technical adequacy and compliance with laws and regulations; 5) Managing design milestones, budgets and cost estimates. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, active, valid Professional Registration license as an Architect in a state, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States. (You must attach a copy of your Professional Registration license as an Architect) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ArchitectureDesignPlanning and Evaluating Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
