The primary purpose of this position is to be the technical expert in system safety providing a high level of system safety engineering, program management, and systems engineering integration expertise and guidance to all AFLCMC programs assigned to directorate(s), including advising the PEO(s) on system safety.

Duties

Serves as the AFLCMC System Safety Engineer/Manager, providing technical expertise to the PEO, Director of Engineering (DOE), and programs within the directorate as well as directing system safety engineering support and management oversight for AFLCMC managed weapons systems and programs. Provides expert consultation services to AFLCMC weapon system program offices in areas of system safety engineering, systems engineering and its component activities. Serves as system safety technical expert, offering interpretation of regulatory guidance, presenting engineering recommendations and providing program assistance to AFMC and AFLCMC System, Test and Evaluation, and materiel safety programs. Directly supports the AFSEC mishap reporting program and processes. Provides oversight for system safety engineering processes performed by all AFLCMC divisions and program offices at the OL, ensuring compliance with applicable directives, and serving as independent agent to all Division Directors/Senior Material Leaders (SML) and Program Chief Engineers in all matters of system safety and safety risk management, including providing advice to their PEO(s) on system safety. May chair safety review boards for AFLCMC Chief of Test Safety for AFLCMC test programs.

Knowledge and mastery of advanced concepts, principles, and practices of system safety engineering related to the development, acquisition, and sustainment of a wide range of complex weapon systems, subsystems, and equipment. 2. Knowledge of weapon systems issues, and experience working with AFMC or other Government organizations in the areas of maintenance, repair, engineering support, system modification, design, and research and development. 3. Knowledge, skill and ability in implementing complex policies, managing projects, directing multi-functional, geographically diverse teams, and responding to system safety and systems engineering related problems and questions in support of systems acquisition programs. 4. In depth knowledge of DoD/Federal Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) standards and policies, American consensus standards, and other nationally recognized guidance. 5. Knowledge of project management techniques and experience in system safety and systems engineering project management. 6. Knowledge of specialized system safety analysis techniques to evaluate system requirements and designs for hazards and other safety issues. 7. Ability to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, draw conclusions and devise solutions to complex problems. 8. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing.
