About the Position: The Branch Chief is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating work involved in economics analysis, socio-economic analysis, and cost effectiveness and incremental cost analysis across 6 MVD Districts.
Duties
Serves as Chief, Economics Branch, Regional Planning and Environmental Division conducting complex economic and socioeconomic studies in the field of water and related land resources development for all six Districts in the Mississippi Division.
Plans, directs, coordinates, and participates in branch activities, providing administrative and technical supervision over subordinate professional, subprofessional, and clerical employees.
Supervises and directs, through Subordinate supervisors, the activities of all economist within Mississippi Valley Division (MVD).
Serves as a district consultant and advisor on matters pertaining to economics aspects of district projects.
Provides advice and guidance to six District Engineers, two Chiefs of Planning Division, and other district elements on all phases and all stages of complex project economic and base studies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One year probationary may be required.
- One year Supervisory probationary period may be required.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Regional Economist
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in economics that includes 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience To qualify applicants must possess 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level in federal service performing work that includes planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, controlling, and reviewing the formulation and development of both long-range and project plans; conducting economic, socio-economics, and cost effectiveness and incremental cost analyses; and the preparation of feasibility studies, economic updates, and environmental compliance on existing and proposed Civil Works projects.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
