Duties
The incumbent performs ongoing patient care duties in a Surgical Specialty Clinic under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, licensed independent provider (LIP), and/or advanced practice provider (APP) assigned, credentialed, privileged and competent in the management and care of the patient. All ICTs are expected to communicate with their supervising physicians, licensed independent provider (LIP), advanced practice provider (APP), and Registered Nurse to provide collaborative, timely and appropriate patient care. The core duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Conducts screening based on observation and gather patient information in cooperation with licensed individuals.
Ensures comprehensive and accurate documentation of actions, interventions, and procedures within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Provides support to licensed personnel in administering care to patients facing complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening conditions.
Provides support in conducting patient examinations and screenings, including orthostatic vital sign measurements, and fall risk assessments.
Operates medical equipment like electrocardiographs, oxygen apparatuses, and vital sign machines.
Carries out diagnostic and point-of-care (POC) studies, utilizing various tools and devices such as glucometer, vital signs monitoring, and EKGs.
Performs equipment and procedural preparations.
Functions as a secondary assistant for patient transport. Responsibilities include facilitating the transportation of patients to and from diagnostic tests and transfers, with or without the need for cardiac monitoring and/or ventilation.

Physical Requirements: The work involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting of patients. Generally, the work requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and positioning of patients. Must be able to lift and/or move heavy objects over 45 pounds. Must be able to carry objects over 40 pounds for distances of at least
200 feet.

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT (IOR): An IOR is a basic requirement that must be met in order to qualify for entry into this job series, and it is something that cannot be waived. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled;
In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement, applicants must also meet the specialized experience as described below.
GS-7 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one (1) full year of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-6, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes work in performing the duties listed on the announcement as a non-professional nursing care, work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility. Specialized experience is defined as:
Assisting medical personnel with surgical procedures.
Operating medical equipment like electrocardiographs and, oxygen apparatuses, and defibrillators.
Conducting specimen preparation and collection.
Performing the necessary procedures for the preparation and transfer of specimens to the laboratory for processing, including but not limited to labeling and packaging.
Facilitating the transportation of patients to and from diagnostic tests and transfers., with or without the need for cardiac monitoring and/or ventilation.
Performing the necessary procedures for the preparation and transfer of specimens to the laboratory for processing, including but not limited to labeling and packaging.
Ensuring comprehensive and accurate documentation of actions, interventions, and procedures within the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Education
