This position is located in Tohatchi Health Care Center, Pharmacy Dept., Tohatchi, NM. Responsibilities involve Pharmacy services within the ambulatory care environment. A number of the tasks require review and final signature of a pharmacist such as ambulatory prescriptions including the review of drug therapy, drug information requests, IV preparation and more complex pharmaceutical functions. The purpose of this position include the preparation/review/dispensing/control of medications.

Duties

Performs the basic technical processes entailed in dispensing prescriptions which include a basic review of the chart to determine appropriate patient and number of medications including quantities to be dispensed and whether dosages are within acceptable ranges based on patient age and weight, entry of data into computer accurately for proper prescription labels, assembling labels and appropriate dosage forms for review by. the pharmacist prior to delivering unit dose cart or giving outpatient medications to patient. Verifies identity of patient, reviews all medications with patient (or proxy) using the I.H.S. consultation method to include proper dose, directions for use, potential adverse reactions, side effects, expected outcomes drug-drug or drug-food interactions as appropriate for that patient Provides patient education in the private patient consultation room as appropriate and includes consultation of patient using these drugs for the first time or on a chronic basis . Patients may be from pediatric through the geriatric ages. The pharmacy technician may seek guidance on unique patient problems or questions from the pharmacist as appropriate. Participates in designed ongoing quality improvement activities in the pharmacy department as required by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations which includes participation in organized staff meetings and continuing education programs as conducted by pharmacy, medical or nursing staff. Performs independent monthly inspections of all drug storage areas within the facility whether in pharmacy areas, or ambulatory areas including review of the cardiac arrest carts to verify that adequate stocks are on hand ,storage conditions meet specifications and that drugs are within expiration dates including the correction of any problems found.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. -OR- Education and Training For GS-3: Successful completion of 1 year of study that included a course in biology, chemistry, or physics. For GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study in pharmacy or pharmacy technology that included at least 12 semester hours in courses in the care, storage, distribution, and preparation of pharmaceuticals, and appropriate laboratory work. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: ordering, receiving/stocking, and dispensing medication and other pharmaceutical products to inpatient and outpatient departments by verifying identity of patients; reviewing medication with patients and identifying and risk factors. GS-3: 6 months general experience GS-4: Specialized experience includes skill in ordering and receiving drugs from supply department, filling work, ascertaining and replenishing needs in clinic and pharmacy supply areas; OR 6 months of General Experience and 6 months of Specialized experience. -OR- EducationGS-3: 1 year above high school with course(s) related to the occupation, if requiredGS-4: 1 year above high school with course(s) related to the occupation, if required Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
