Duties

You will be responsible for the development, implementation, management, and execution of a dynamic program to build and sustain a networked and empowered community of current and future security leaders. You will direct a coordinated program which is designed to contribute to a global network of security officials whose foundation rests upon the common experiences and knowledge obtained from Regional Center foundational educational courses. You will encourage graduates to take advantage of the professional network of security officials throughout the global security community. You will encourage and motivate Center graduates throughout the Center’s area of interest to organize alumni-led programming. You will guide alumni toward developing and achieving goals which support the goals of the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies (TSC) and its stakeholders. You will encourage and assist alumni to establish contact and work with other governmental and non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, NATO, OSCE, foundations, etc., to achieve these goals. You will advise TSC leadership, program directors and the curriculum review process concerning alumni programs and activities within the regional, transnational and course focus areas, based on knowledge of key security issues in the supported areas. You will maintain a current database of all graduates with appropriate report formats. You will collaborate with the TSC strategic communication representative to communicate with alumni by e-mail, telephone, mail, and on-line using social media tools. You will collect updated career and contact information about alumni and firsthand anecdotes relating to the relevance and utility of TSC programs. You will be responsible for producing and distributing alumni network electronic newsletters and assisting with the promotion of other Ted Stevens Center publications that might be a benefit to the alumni. You will be responsible for the overall planning, preparation, and execution of up to 12-20 outreach events per year, many of which are events specifically designed for alumni, and the organization. You will develop, support, and assist with planning all Alumni Community of Interest events and collaborates with the Strategic Engagement team on field study tips to maximize alumni participation and to add value of the event to the network. You will ensure all events are properly included in a proposed annual program plan and budget and submitted on a timely basis to the Dean and Deputy Dean of the School of Arctic and Climate Security Studies.

Requirements

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

GS-12: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Developing detailed plans, goals, and objectives for the long-range implementation of an Alumni program for an organization. GS-11: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Gathering information, identifying and analyzing issues, and developing recommendations to resolve substantive problems of effectiveness and efficiency of a Alumni program for an organization.
