Duties

You will independently install, overhaul, maintain, and/or repair various fire alarm and fire detection systems. You will troubleshoot and repair radio decoding terminal equipment employing special purpose digital computers, using relay and solid-state logic, digital coding methods, digital readouts, and digital to analog converters. You will repair or replace such parts as condensers, transformers, resistors, diodes, transistors, crystals, switches, coils, integrated circuits, and vacuum tubes. You will test equipment under operating conditions making appropriate adjustments and calibrates other equipment as required.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • This position is considered Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. 1) Performing troubleshooting and repairing radio decoding terminal equipment employing special purpose digital computers, using relay and solid state logic, digital coding methods, digital readouts, and digital to analog converters. 2) Repairing or replacing such parts as condensers, transponders, resistors, diodes, transistors, crystals, switches, coils, integrated circuits, and vacuum tubes. 3) Tests equipment under operating conditions making appropriate adjustments and calibrates other equipment as required, and 4) Using such equipment as oscilloscope, wattmeter, frequency meter, diode and transistor checker, tube tester, ohm, volt and amp meter. This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Must have completed a four-year apprenticeship in the trade or must have had four years of practical experience in the trade sufficient in content and progressive acquirement of trade skills to be the equivalent of a qualified Journeyman.
