The Social Work Associate position is located at the Veteran's Healthcare System in Cumberland, Maryland. The primary purpose of this position is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes healthcare, outstanding customer service, commitment to serving veterans, contribute to team initiatives and strives to improve the effectiveness of the team.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides services to selected cases as assigned by the appropriate MSW. Expedites treatments and implements objectives for the patient. Develops contacts with housing providers, public and private throughout Cumberland's catchment area. Coordinates with the veteran's case manager and other team members with the housing application process. Works together with social workers to help direct workload and the tasks that need to be accomplished. Coordinates social work treatment with other treatment areas of the Medical Center. Engages in constant coordination and communication with various departments in and outside of the organization. Social Worker Associates will undergo orientation and job specific competency evaluation prior to significant contact with patients. Protects information from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or deletion. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized. Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved. Financial Disclosure Report: Not Require.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6) in the Federal service that has given you the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties independently of a Social Worker Associate, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled? Specialized experience includes: Providing assistance and services as prescribed for individual cases by social workers in conjunction with their professional treatment; experience as a social welfare worker or social work assistant in a voluntary, public, social, or health agency; document all social work activities in medical records in accordance with policy, helps patients fill out application forms; gather information, and handle detail around discharge planning; provide services that support treatment and intervention; follow up on documents, reports, or information needed for social work treatment; make phone calls or personal contact to physicians, family, and community referrals; utilize word processing software and spreadsheets for communication and reports. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. AND BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in major fields of study such as: social welfare, sociology, psychology, public administration, philosophy, education, anthropology, history, economics and/or English. AND DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Mustpossess a current and valid state-issued driver's license to perform the duties of this position? All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Physical Demands: A significant amount of walking throughout the Medical Center is required for face-to-face contact with patients, family members and medical center staff. Additionally, the Social Worker Associate will be expected to work in the community on developing and maintaining a list of housing resources.
