These positions are located at the Central Virginia VA Healthcare System in Richmond, VA. These positions operate patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles and patient transport vans/buses capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers, to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and private sector areas like patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Operates one or more types of patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses, and other types of transport vehicles;
Arrives at and departs from pickup and discharge points at scheduled times;
Operates the doors to allow passengers to enter and exit the vehicle;
Reads installation maps and judges road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route;
Enforces passenger safety and seatbelt use;
Loads and unloads patients safely;
Performs operator maintenance such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing vehicles, and performing inspection checklists;
Uses two-way radio (or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher/supervisor;
Performs other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 6:00am-2:30pm or 8:00am-4:30pm

Designated Drug-Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Qualifications
COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE (SCREEN OUT): A current and valid state-issued Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement is required for this position. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your CDL driver's license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current and valid state-issued Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, ect, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Work involves assisting patients with a variety of medical conditions and or disabilities. Associated duties require stooping, bending, lifting, climbing, and securing patients, oxygen, and wheelchairs with appropriate sccuring devices. Work involves lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier. The Motor Vehicle Operator must be able to drive for a minimum of a four-hour period and stay mentally alert.
Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of weather. Drivers are exposed to dirt fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents
when loading and unloading the vehicle.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
