This position is located in Acadia National Park, in the Administrative Division. The typical seasonal period for this position is May thru November, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2024. Duties

Directs, leads, and coordinates training and work projects to be completed by youth crews of typically 4-5 youth, while maintaining a safe work environment. This involves providing direction on work projects, tool use, Personal Protective Equipment, and leave no trace principles. Work includes a wide variety of land-resource improvement projects such as trail rehabilitation, carriage road drainage, vista clearing, and mechanical removal of non-native species. This position coordinates and assists supervisor with scheduling duties equitably to ensure that all youth on a crew receive maximum experience; records time and attendance; and gives youth performance reports. In addition, this position aids in planning and leading resource education programs and activities for youth. Operates government-owned or leased equipment and motor vehicles including sedan, 4x4s, and pickup trucks in order to move equipment and people to and from worksite daily. Acadia National Park is located in what is known as the "Downeast" region of Maine. The park protects over 49,000 acres, where the highest mountains on the eastern seaboard of the United States touch the rocky coast of the Atlantic Ocean. While most of the park is located on Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park also encompasses smaller islands scattered along the coast, including a portion of Isle au Haut to the southwest. The Schoodic Peninsula, a one-hour drive to the east from park headquarters, is the only mainland area of the park. Visitors enjoy 27 miles of historic motor roads, more than 160 miles of hiking trails, and 45 miles of carriage roads. The park receives more than 3.5 million visitors annually and is one of the top ten most visited National Parks in the United States. This position is stationed on Mount Desert Island where the largest part of the park is located. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/19/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, experience dealing with the responsibility and safety of minors while leading outdoor youth programs including education programs, summer camps programs, or resource-based work programs; lead volunteers, interns, and youth through activities and events; provide administrative tasks by creating reports and database management for program materials; provide instructions on work assignments to volunteers and youth groups. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at the GS-05 level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies" NOTE: CTAP/ICTAP - Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
