Duties
Major Duties:
The incumbent performs a variety of food service duties in support of the VCS food operations. He/she may be assigned to perform duties in any of the following areas: Kitchen, Entrees & Sides, By the Slice, Broasted Chicken, Subs & Wraps, Chefs Choice, Simply to Go, The Brew, serving lines, etc. In each assigned area and consistent with VCS food standards, guidelines and instructions, the incumbent assists with the presentation, and serving of food items.
Fills ice machines or other dispensers, and rotates and stocks assorted bottled/canned beverages, sandwiches, etc. for the refrigerated display cases. Food service workers may brew coffee, assemble fresh fruit and/or green salads in quantity using prepared dressings and portion into standard serving sizes. They may apportion other food items (e.g., gelatins, juices, and desserts) into standard serving sizes using the proper utensils and containers. They may make cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients.
Assures all food stuffs, paper goods, forks, knives, etc. are stocked/maintained in preparation for the daily operation of assigned shops/areas.
Assist with receiving and storing of food deliveries. Unload food from delivery trucks and stores or stocks items in accordance with operating standards/instructions.
Incumbent complies with all safety rules and health provisions addressing sanitation and food handling. Ensures refrigeration of food, liquid, meats, etc. and that they are properly wrapped and stored avoiding contamination or spoilage. Keeps assigned food areas clean at all times. Cleans tables, and/or removes trash, and cleans machines, dishes, dishwashers, dispensers, refrigerators, walk-in freezers, display cases, mixers, etc.
Complies with portion control measures and greets customers in a friendly and courteous manner. Uses hair nets, hats, and rubber gloves and practices good personal hygiene when working with or around food. Assist with catering. Set up food areas and tables, and carts food, beverages, etc. to catering locations.
Incumbent is required to operate equipment as required and in accordance with operating standards and instructions; e.g., dishwasher, cash registers, electric can opener, vegetable chopper, conveyor toaster, steam table, fry saver, broaster, breader, mixer, and sandwich packager.
Salary: $17.64 per hour - $20.59 per hour
Work Schedule: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out elements, which appears in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
