This position is part of the NNSA - Sandia Field Office, Department of Energy. A successful candidate in this position will serve as Health Physicist, providing professional analysis, oversight, and advice in all matters pertaining to health physics/radiation safety at nine individual sites located in four states including the Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM (SNL/NM), in California (SNL/CA); the Tonopah Test Range (TTR) in Nevada; and the Kauai Test Facility (KTF) in Hawaii.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NN/EN-03, NQ-03. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience providing technical advice and advisory services associated with a radiological protection program for an agency or business. Implementing aspects of radiation protective systems and processes to address occupational radiation protection safety with all identified risks reduced to acceptably low levels Examples of Specialized Experience: Must Meet 3 out of 4 1. Experience working at Nuclear or radiological Facilities 2. Experience providing oversight at nuclear facilities 3. Experience assessing compliance and performance of Radiation Protection Programs 4. Experience serving as a senior level radiation protection subject matter expert "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must meet all of the requirements as described in this section. If you are eligible for career transition assistance plans such as ICTAP or CTAP, you must meet the definition of "well qualified" which is defined as having a score of 85 or better. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Education

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the Individual Occupational Requirements (Basic Requirements).

Basic Requirements: A. Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.

OR

B.Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.

Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.Applicants who have completed part or all of their education outside of the U.S. must have their foreign education evaluated by an accredited organization to ensure that the foreign education is comparable to education received in accredited educational institutions in the U.S. A written evaluation of any foreign education must be provided with your application in response to this vacancy announcement or be received by the closing date of this announcement.
