The Leady Supply Technician position is for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) in Sheridan VA Medical Center and supported catchment area. Ensures supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics. Leads three or more GS-2005 employees to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material, including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies. May involve evening, overnight, or weekend hours.

Duties

Major duties include, but are not limited to: Discusses periodic inventory with ward and clinical personnel, maintaining stock levels, returning reusable supplies to distribution area and informing clinic and ward personnel on new or changed items or supplies, current medical supply resources, and shelf life. Leads three or more GS-2005 employees in the distribution area of Logistics. Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization. Assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload; monitors status and progress of work. Obtains assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly. Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques, making written instructions, reference materials, and supplies available. Checks on work in progress or spot checks work not requiring review; monitors working conditions. Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor; approves leave for a few hours or for emergencies. Provides information to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignments, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs. Interacts with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified and either resolved or escalated to supervisors or Inventory Management Specialists as needed. Gives on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services. Monitors expiration dates; rotates stock to limit outdates; removes items from use as required by outdates. Ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible, and escalating significant deviations to the Inventory Management Specialists. Utilizes a pager or similar device to expedite the pick/delivery of items needed in user areas throughout the facility. Delivers to wards, clinics, and other secondary locations that may be in remote sites; may be required to deliver by motor vehicle. Receives supplies and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area; unpacks and uncrates supplies from shipping cartons; stores supplies and material in main/primary inventory area properly. Utilizes a computerized inventory management system. Ensures sterility and integrity of supplies and material and data integrity of the inventory management system. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, or as determined by supervisor (may involve evening, overnight, or weekend hours) Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/27/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience (GS-06): You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Resolving operating issues pertaining to clinical and administrative supply management requirements; Ensuring timely and proper distribution of supplies and materials in assigned areas to include sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment; Utilizing automated point of use inventory system, as well as parent inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes; Performing daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar code equipment and following schedule; Cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled; Monitoring expiration dates, rotating stock to limit outdates, and removing items from use required by outdates; Conducting on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending, and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as fifty (50) pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of one-hundred (100) or more pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over forty (40) pounds.
