Duties

As an CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR, you will perform the following duties: GS-13 Coordinates and conducts investigations with national or international impact on export enforcement program. Develops and conducts investigative procedures to obtain essential elements of proof, interrogations, and examination/procurement of pertinent records. Assists and recommends in improving policy planning to enhance the development and implementation of the overall export enforcement cyber strategy, guidelines, and procedures. Prepares and collects qualitative and quantitative data relating to Cyber and information technology supply chain security issues. GS-14 Coordinates, monitors, and oversees interdiction and enforcement actions with other units in BIS as well as other diplomatic, intelligence and law enforcement agencies. Advises senior Department officials and federal law enforcement on Cyber, national security, supply chain security, and compliance. Develops and implements guidelines, procedures, and instructions for use by personnel in obtaining and properly using intelligence information and in conducting investigations. Generates and applies legislative policies relate to implementation of the department cyber program. Medical Requirements: The duties in this position in this series requiremoderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning for applicants to perform their duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. As measured by an audiometer, hearing loss must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself or others is unqualifying. Maximum Entry Age: This position is covered by the special retirement provisions for Federal Law Enforcement Officers (LEO). Candidates without previous LEO service must be under the age of 37. Those with current or prior federal LEO coverage will be considered only if they can demonstrate that they have completed 20 years of covered service by the mandatory retirement age of 57. This requirement may be waived for Veterans. Basic Training: Selectee must complete or have completed the basic criminal investigator course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Glyndon, GA (or equivalent training determined by the agency). To qualify at the GS-13 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Preparing and coordinating investigative matters related to Cyber and technology supply chain security; discovering and investigating intelligence information on insider threats; composing and reviewing memoranda, law enforcement interdictions, investigations, and criminal proceedings; establishing and maintaining investigative plans, researching records, laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines. To qualify at the GS-14 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Performing investigative research on national and international export enforcement programs; advising on and monitoring internal and external threats, including insider and cyber security risks, and safeguarding technology supply chains; preparing and conducting interviews, interrogations, surveillance, and coordinating with state and federal agencies for enforcement activities; developing and enhancing policies and procedures for cyber strategy under the Export Administration Act.
