The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 6), Salem VA Medical Center, Fiscal Office, Salem, VA. The primary duties of the position involves the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody, or other clerical processing of cash items such as direct handling of the cash items and use of cash accountability and control methods.

Duties

Duties include but not limited to: Responsible for maintaining the cash flow so that adequate cash is on hand at all times to operate the daily cashier functions. Pay in cash certain designed classes of Fiscal vouchers, performing disbursing function in accordance with authority delegated by the Treasury Department. Responsible for directing and training all activities of the unit, taking prompt action as necessary to modify and/or change existing practices with the objective of efficiency in operations and maintenance of work on a current and accurate basis in accordance with all existing laws and regulations. Make determination on the acceptability of a wide variety of items and documents, the adequacy of identification material, and authenticity of signatures. Make cash payments to patients, employees, and cash replenishments to alternate cashiers such as travel vouchers, withdrawals from patients' funds accounts, general post funds, beneficiary travel, incentive therapy pay, individual patient withdrawals from those with personal funds on deposit with the VA, and payment to restricted and institutional award patients. Analyze work requirements and determine resources, equipment and other needs to accomplish work assignments. Balance accounts daily to assure that the disbursing fund and collections are properly accounted for. Verifies records of alternate tellers accounts for any collections received or disbursements made. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:45am - 4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/25/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: above average experience performing clerical/administrative support functions. Highly customer service oriented. Exhibits above average communication skills. Some knowledge of the cashier operations and experience with the handling of monetary instruments (i.e., checks, money orders, cash etc.). Well versed with using the OTC Net and VISTA/CAP applications. Capable of maintaining security over sensitive information..
