The primary purpose of this position is: To exercise second level supervisory and managerial authorities over the 6th Security Forces Squadron (6 SFS), serving as the Supervisory Security Specialist and senior force protection advisor to the MSG/CC and Installation Commander (6 ARW/CC).

Duties

Duty 1: Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the 6 SFS. Duty 2: Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Duty 3: Represents 6 SFS with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Duty 4: Makes comprehensive assessments and evaluations of the unit's goals/objectives which provide a basis for long range planning to enhance the management support capabilities of the Security Forces Squadron.

  • This position has been designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
  • Incumbent must be able to operate Security Forces Vehicles and installed equipment. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • Must obtain and maintain a government travel card
  • This position is designated as a key position IA W AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations.
  • Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
  • Department of Defense Security Fundamentals Professional Certification, and Physical Security Certification conferrals are required within 2 years of the established employee EOD
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • This is a Key position. Position shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively.
  • This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CAN NOT become a member of the Ready Reserve

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes applying knowledge of applicable law enforcement and security, Federal and DoD rules, regulations, instructions, practices, principles and procedures including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism and physical security and operations supporting protection for assets and personnel; Extensive knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structure, management, and operation of large organizations to provide high level staff guidance and participate in the development of goals, objectives, and policies. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Extensive knowledge of personnel management (civilian and military), manpower, and services concepts, principles, operations, laws, regulations, programs, and practices sufficient to develop, plan, budget, and coordinate activities, programs, installation security, law enforcement and customer interests and needs. 2. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws, Air Force, Federal and DoD law enforcement and security rules, regulations, instructions, practices, principles and procedures including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism and physical security. 3. Knowledge of organization mission, roles, functions, structure, management, and operation sufficient to provide high level staff guidance and participate in the development of goals, objectives, and policies. 4. Knowledge of safety, security, Military Equal Opportunity (MEO) and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. 5. Skill in managing the work operations of multiple organizational segments to meet program requirements, goals, and objectives within available resources and Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. 6. Ability to manage/employ the National Incident Management System, the Security Force Management Information System, Defense Biometric Identification System, Live Scan and other law enforcement databases and ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization directly and through subordinate supervisors. Other Significant Facts: Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties. Bachelor's degree is required, and it is desirable that incumbent has completed a master's degree. Squadron Officer School completion is desired but not required. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
