About the Position: This is a Legal Assistant, GS-0986-07 position for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Southwestern Division, Tulsa District and located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Duties
Input and retrieve data and maintain numerous legal, financial, and other databases used in the office.
Produce a variety of legal materials (e.g. correspondence, reports, studies, memoranda, etc.) using word processing software to enter, revise, sort and retrieve data.
Receive and refer office visitors and phone calls and take messages in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations.
Utilize legal databases, files, library, the Internet, and other sources to obtain necessary facts and information.
Search case reports, legal documents, databases, periodicals and textbooks and assist in preparing motions, interrogatories, briefs, Rule 4 assemblies, litigation reports, etc.
Aid and assist the District's Claims Officer in processing non-contractual claims.
Assist attorneys in claims, appeals, and litigation.
Maintain law office files.
Administrative duties for a law office.
Operate office automation equipment, including a local area network and personal computer: word processing, spreadsheets, legal calendar/ docketing, electronic mail, and litigation-support and financial management software.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes following duties: 1) Preparing, reviewing and organizing legal case and administrative materials including large collections of documents; AND 2) Assisting attorneys with case management and logistical arrangements in support of legal case preparation and hearings; AND 3) Creating documents and spreadsheets for a legal office and for litigation using software such as Word, Adobe and Excel.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
Education
