Joining the Secret Service, Office of Protective Operations (OPO), allows you to serve as a Supervisory Investigative Protection Officer. This position supports an integrated protective and investigative mission(s) which plans, directs, coordinates and implements domestic and international protective and investigative policies, programs and operations of the Secret Service.    Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime is additional compensation which may be paid up to 25% of the base salary.

Duties

This Supervisory Investigative Protection Officer position starts at a base salary of $84,546 (GS-13, step 1), with promotion potential to $109,908 (GS-13, step 10) base salary with adjustments determined by locality. For more information on the Secret Service click here.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Possess a current valid driver's license and maintain during employment.
  • Maintain a Top Secret Clearance during your career.
  • Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
  • Submit to random drug testing while you occupy the position.
  • Must have a current qualifying medical exam on record.
  • Selectee(s) may be subject to a one-year supervisory probationary period.

Qualifications

GS-13: To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as: leading/directing employees engaged in protective, investigative and administrative work;  managing logistics and strategic planning in arranging protective services and transportation for internal and external law enforcement counterparts; and, preparing executive summaries and formal reports; and ensuring implementation of protective instructions and procedures at security locations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Time-in-Grade Requirement: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service on a non-temporary appointment.  Applicants must provide a copy of their SF-50 (Notification of Personnel Action), that should include their position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). You may need to submit more than one SF-50 to comply.
