About the Position: This position serves as a Carpenter (Locksmith/Motor Vehicle Operator) at Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Moore, GA. The individual performs locksmith duties throughout the hospital, repairs and/or replaces a wide variety of commercially manufactured locking devices on structures and equipment made of various wood and metal materials. This is a second shift position with normal hours of 3:30PM to 12:00AM.
Duties
Perform visual inspection of break-ins to determine if action was a forced entry or if key/combination was used.
Perform preventive maintenance inspections to determine safety hazards, damage and repair requirements.
Mix plaster to apply on a variety of surfaces and finish interior walls and ceilings.
Operate a motor vehicle to transport materials and installation equipment.
Provide advice on type of locking hardware for new work and renovations depending on type of function and material to be protected.
Complete trip tickets and maintenance service to minor vehicle for preventative maintenance.
Fabricate keys using key combinator and duplicator, or impression and inscribing method to create a master mold.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires 2nd shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 75lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position is “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- Incumbent will be required to have a Hep B immunization series as an immunization screening as a condition of employment.
- Incumbent will be required to have a Tuberculosis immunization screening as a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Carpenter (Locksmith/Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common carpentry skills and operate a wide variety of woodworking machines and tools. Perform locksmith duties, replace wide variety of commercially manufactured locking devices on structures and equipment. Make repairs, replace locks and open devices that malfunction. Interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications independently, and determine the layout and work sequences and types of lumber or special related materials. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Work requires considerable standing, stooping, kneeling and bending; works in overhead, stretched, cramped and awkward positions. Works on roofs, ladders and scaffolds. Arm movement is considerable when nailing and using certain tools and equipment. Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination is required for delicate locksmith work. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing about 50 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and out. Exposed to a variety of weather conditions, dust and dirt while working outdoors. Inside work is usually in buildings that are adequately heated, lighted and ventilated. When working from roofs, ladders and scaffolds there is danger of serious injury from falls. Subject to noise, bruises, cuts and more serious injuries from hand or power tools; danger of flying wood chips and metal splinters; dust and dirt; eye, skin and lung irritation from fumes, solvents or paint; back strains from lifting heavy material. May be required to work in asbestos contaminated areas. As required, wears protective clothing and equipment.
