The Motor Vehicle Operator position is located in the EMS department at the Newington, CT location. This position is a Full-Time position at 40 hours per week.

Duties

Operate pickup, panel flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, vans and wheel chair vans which have a gross vehicle weight of up to 10,000 pounds. Vehicles are operated along standard routes to transport supplies, materials, RMW, sewage, or equipment or tools throughout the immediate installation, under limited traffic conditions, at low speeds or on public roads, under any traffic conditions, at highway speeds. Perform routine operator maintenance on driven vehicles. Vehicles are driven on the basis of either specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules and standard routes. Vehicles transport personnel, supplies, RMW, sewage, or equipment over under all conditions. Operate and perform maintenance on motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds. Frequently lifts objects weighing over 40 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds. Perform janitorial and custodial work such as sweeping, scrubbing, and waxing floors; washing windows and walls; dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures; and emptying waste cans. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday 07:30am-04:00pm. Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System. Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is a NAGE Bargaining Unit position. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. The incumbent may be required to travel to other VA campuses and CBOC's.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent must be physically able to do a considerable amount of walking, standing, climbing ladders, stooping, bending and crawling. Incumbent must be able to work in congested areas in tight, cramped, or awkward positions. Incumbent may be required to carry and set up ladders and indoor scaffolding/staging. Incumbent may be required to lift or move heavy equipment or furniture that may weigh more than 50 pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to cleaning chemicals and be fit tested for proper PPE and respirator. Considerable effort may be required to change tires on vehicles.
