You will serve as a HEALTH TECHNICIAN (AUDIOLOGY/HEARING CONSERVATION PROGRAM) in the Directorate of Public Health within the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) of NMRTC PEARL HARBOR HI. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. GS-06 $43,706-$56,814 GS-07 $48,567-$63,137

Duties

You will access vital patient health history data and review health issues impacting hearing sensitivity or audiological test results. You will evaluate outer and middle ear function through otoscopic examination of the ear canals tympanometry, and acoustic reflex screening procedures. You will document individualized medical notes on each patient in their electronic health record. You will generate reports and initiate responses to formal and informal correspondence. You will provide proactive hearing loss prevention services.

  • In accordance with BUMEDINST 6220.9B, this position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing
  • The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, or on an “on call” basis, necessary to meet ashore or afloat mission requirements.
  • In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15F employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • According to NMCPHC-TM-OEM 6260.7 Health Care Workers (HCW) with potential exposure to blood/ infectious materials (BOPIMs) will be offered the hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) or immunity testing. Declination Form may be required prior to reporting.
  • Must maintain current, valid certification as an Occupational Hearing Conservation Technician and successfully achieve annual technician provider competency assessments.

Qualifications

For the GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-05) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Utilizing window-based computer operating systems and other approved software; Providing patient care and communicating with patients, hospital staff, military and civilian personnel; Conducting health education face to face and/or group training sessions. For the GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-06) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting with appointments, scheduling and Occupational Audiology related issues; Scheduling routine hearing tests and providing annual training/indoctrination to patients; Assisting with preparing monthly reports to area command in accordance with hearing conservation regulations; Performing fitting and evaluating appropriate use of hearing protection devices; AND Conducting hearing tests on personnel assigned to the Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) to measure and evaluate changes in hearing threshold levels.
