About the Position: This position falls under the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Tidewater Market, in the Command Suite, Special Assistant, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, responsible for conducting Safety Inspections, managing selected major sub-programs, conducting training classes, workplace monitoring and other tasks necessary to support the safety program as directed by the Safety Manager.

Duties

Assist with the Fire Safety Program to include fire drill planning, drill execution, fire prevention inspections and as a drill observer to document drill results. Prepare reports, assist with command personnel check-in / out process, and updates the associated databases accordingly. Assist the Safety Manager and Specialists with day-to-day operation of the hazardous materials program. Conduct inspections of low and moderate risk operations and facilities. Provide safety-related training and educational material to customers on topics, such as holiday/travel, fire prevention, occupational safety, hazardous materials, recreational/off duty safety, and other topics as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Selectee will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 15 pounds is required.

OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as safety, fire prevention, industrial hygiene, or other directly related subjects. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
