The incumbent is a Laborer, WG-3502-03, in the Grounds division of the Facilities Management Service at the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Operate trucks with a power lift gate, compact cargo trucks, pick-up trucks and cargo vans. Operate a fork lift and/or pallet jacks for heavy objects/furniture up to 5000 lbs. Operate moving equipment such as appliance dollies, flat carts and carpet dollies. Operate tools like power drills, hammers, screw drivers, pliers and other various equipment to perform related duties such as to move, assemble and disassemble furniture. Following oral directions to perform simple tasks which may require several steps to complete. Reading and following posted instructions through signs and pictures. Basic lawn maintenance. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer/PD00012A Physical Requirements: Heavy physical effort is required by the Incumbent consistently reaching, bending, turning, use of hands, feet, arms, and legs to handle different sets of controls in order to operate the equipment systematically. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration and bouncing of the equipment. The incumbent may be required to work in awkward or strained positions that require more effort. Work involves very heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as; frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds, running power mowers on grades, pushing heavy wheelbarrow loads of cement, sand, soil, etc., or jackhammering. Occasionally lifting and moving objects in excess of 80 pounds are required. The Incumbent may have to leave the equipment several times in doing certain tasks that may require the Incumbent to climb on and off the tractor/mower more than usual. This position requires many hours on your feet walking, standing, leaning, climbing, sitting, bending, stretching, and kneeling, carrying, climbing ladders, holding, and placing. Incumbent shall be able to execute work duties in weather conditions and at temperatures usually experienced in this geographic area. Incumbent must be able to perform the duties described herein efficiently and without hazard to oneself or to others. Good near and distant vision in both eyes is required, corrected lenses permitted. Ability to distinguish basic colors is required. Incumbent must be able to hear proficiently from both ears, hearing aids permitted. Working Conditions: The Incumbent performs work in all types of weather conditions. Some lawn equipment may be open seated and the Laborer may be exposed to rain, extreme heat, sunny, cold and windy, dusty, dirt, sandy and muddy conditions. The Laborer will be required to protect self from these environments with protective clothing, such as rain suites, hats, coveralls, gloves, (PSE) personal safety equipment such as; safety glasses, goggles, hardhats, steel toe shoes, or whatever the situation calls for. Such hazards as tripping, burns, loud noises, falling, and rollovers do exist and could cause serious injury or death to self and others; the Incumbent must adhere to all rules and regulations and promote safety during his/ her tour of duty.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
