About the Position: This position falls under the Defense Health Agency - National Capital Region Medical Directorate at the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, providing a variety of nursing duties from routine to moderately specialized in nature within the Department of OB/GYN, Women's Health Clinic.

Duties
Provide assistance to a doctor during examination, and treatment in clinics, examining rooms, and minor surgical procedures.
Assist with retrieving medications from the pharmacy/medication pyxis and delivering specimens to the laboratory.
Set up equipment and instruments for routine and complex examinations and procedures.
Drape patients for examinations and treatments and prepare patients for examination (for example, takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure, measures and records weight and height and obtains specimens for routine testing).
Perform blood draws on emergent patients, start IV's, and give routine immunizations.
Recognize adverse signs and symptoms immediately and call for assistance; if the situation warrants it, initiate CPR immediately.
Document patients' chief complaints and other pertinent information in the electronic medical record.
Perform maintenance duties (clean and stock patient exam rooms, maintain and clean instruments and equipment used during patient procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical.
- This position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Incumbent must hold a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)Certification that is sponsored/endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advance Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience in a specialty clinic such as, OB/GYN, which includes providing care to patients, assisting medical staff with routine patient care procedures, and documenting patient report using an electronic medical record system.

EDUCATION: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in the field associated with the position.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
