You will serve as a SECURITY GUARD in the NAVY INSTALLATIONS COMMAND OPERATIONS (N3) of DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.
Salary range - Point Loma, San Diego and Coronado, CA
GS-5: $42,714 - $55,534 per annum
GS-6: $47,616 - $61,897 per annum
Salary range - Seal Beach, CA
GS-5: $43,646 - $56,746 per annum
GS-6: $48,655 - $63,247 per annum
Duties
You will check credentials of personnel or vehicles to control access to base posts, buildings, private property, or restricted areas.
You will operate hand-held two-way communications devices and electronic scanners while completing security work assignments.
You will access a personal identification system to issue vehicle passes and identification badges.
You will interview persons to obtain or verify information related to suspicious persons or activity.
Requirements

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Required to carry firearms or other weapons authorized for their specific jurisdictions (I.E., applicable Navy, Federal and State certifications).
- Required to wear a uniform and comply with grooming standards in accordance with Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) directives.
- Required to receive training on the use of oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray (pepper spray) in a controlled training environment, to include the experience of receiving the spray to the facial area.
- Successfully complete/pass required CNIC directed Navy Security Forces Training Course, as well as reoccurring training requirements.
Qualifications
GS-05: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector 1) Physically examining identification for access to restricted areas; 2) Assisting with regulating pedestrian and vehicular traffic to maintain traffic flow and security operations; 3) Monitoring personnel access into restricted areas; and 4) Preforming private and commercial vehicle inspections. GS-06: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector 1) Authenticating identification for access to restricted areas; 2) Regulating pedestrian and vehicular traffic to maintain traffic flow and security operations; 3) Granting or denying personnel access into restricted areas; and 4) Preforming private and commercial vehicle inspections and package inspections following prescribed procedures to ensure only authorized property is brought into or removed from facilities.
