About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Department of Pain Management, Fort Sam Houston, TX. This is a Direct Hire Authority recruitment. Completion of a post-doctoral fellowship in pain psychology or other pertinent health psychology field is highly preferred. A current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently is highly preferred.

Duties

Employ psychological techniques for the treatment of chronic pain and psychological conditions associated with pain. Provide professional consultation to other medical departments within organization regarding role of psychological and behavioral factors in complex chronic pain patients. Formulate treatment plans and diagnostic recommendations for patients with chronic pain. Plan training and maintain clinical oversight of masters/doctoral interns and residents assigned to the Pain Services section.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced certification (e.g., Advanced Life Support) does not supersede BLS completion.
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist (Health): Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience: Treating the psychological conditions associated with medical complications, conducting psychological evaluations of patients, and developing treatment plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
