Located within the Environmental Management Service at the VA Medical Center in Temple, TX, the Pest Controller is responsible for planning, implementing, and carrying out a comprehensive Integrated Pest Management Program.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Planning, implementing, and carrying out a comprehensive Integrated Pest Management Program
Reviewing and acting upon pest complaints received
Documenting pest treatment provided
Developing pest treatment schedules
Selecting proper materials and equipment to manage pests
Selects, mixes, and applies restricted and general use pesticides
Completes required reports and records to meet regulatory requirements
Follows all Federal, State, Local, and Medical Center directives that are pertinent to an effective pest management program
Monitors contract quality control and compliance
Provides exterior treatment for insect or invertebrate infestations
Provides pest control coverage for other facilities within the Central Texas
Performs other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: May lift and handle materials weighing over 50 pounds and carry chemical solutions weighing up to 40 pounds for extended periods. May work in cramped and uncomfortable positions. Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable conditions may be encountered. May move furniture, equipment, etc., as part of the treatment process. Assignments completed both indoors and outdoors. May encounter heat, cold, dust, dirt, mud, unpleasant odors, etc. May be exposed to areas of minimal ventilation and/or limited access. Required to wear necessary safety equipment (i.e., respirators, gloves, and other personal protective equipment) while completing and preparing all applications.

This position requires a Texas Department of Agriculture Noncommercial Political Pesticide Applicator License, in accordance with VHA Handbook 1850.02. Applicants with a Texas Department of Agriculture Commercial Technician License will be considered. However, you must obtain the Texas Department of Agriculture Noncommercial Political Certified Pesticide Applicator License within 90 days of appointment. Failure to obtain the Texas Department of Agriculture Noncommercial Political Applicator License within 90 days of appointment may result in termination/removal. *Certification information should be included in your resume.
