This position is located in the J6 Network Cyber Center at Camp Mabry in Austin, TX. The purpose of this position is to serve as the Network Engineer for the state.
Duties
As a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (TITLE 5) with the Texas Army National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:
Serves as computer network engineer. Develops, defines, assesses and recommends concepts or solutions to implement network designs, policies and procedures that will result in continual upgrade, enhancement and optimization of the state's wide area command and control network and that will ensure proper network configuration and standardization.
Serves as the Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COR) in the review and acceptance of network systems contractual work. Coordinates with procurement officials in developing statements of work containing quantities of required support. Provides technical advice and guidance to the directorate and to contractor personnel to facilitate tasks and projects.
Serves as a project manager during the implementation of C4 projects. Develops policies and procedures to ensure the needs of the various supported organizations do not adversely affect system performance.
Uses standard business practices when reviewing network architecture improvements to insure systems provide sufficient return on their investment. Manages projects approved for implementation, which include network consolidation and/or growth.
Performs other duties as assigned: Plan, Install, configure, test, maintain network equipment in accordance with DISA STIGs and NIST guidance in order to successfully navigate CCRI. Keeps the supervisor informed of progress and of potentially controversial matters as needed without continual prompting.

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level your resume must include relevant experience/education with beginning and ending dates reflecting the following:
Specialized Experience:
At least one year of specialized experiences at the GS-11 level or the equivalent which provided experience, education, or training
that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization AND experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls AND experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment AND experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree

Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions
Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
