About the Position: Position is rotational, but primarily resides at the Main Pharmacy at the Hospital. Hours of work are typically 0730-1630 with an hour lunch. Working environment is the Main Outpatient Pharmacy with occasional rotations to the pharmacies at Byrd, LaPointe, or Town Center. Weekend rotation to cover at Town Center occurs approximately once a month with hours of 0900-1700 on Saturday. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Develop plans for and conducts or assigns other staff pharmacists to provide orientation/overview of outpatient pharmacy operations. Rate pharmacists and technician supervisors; acting as higher-level reviewer for pharmacy technicians. Assist with scheduling, timekeeping, and managing leave to meet pharmacy staff and patient care needs. Attend meetings as required reporting to the Officer in Charge of the Outpatient Pharmacy and the Chief of Pharmacy regularly.

Requirements

  • Must obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • This position may require the incumbent to complete a one-year supervisory probationary period.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires heavy lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position is designated Mission and Weather Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • This position is subject to rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Pharmacist: Degree: Completion of a doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. License: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors. Qualifications for GS-12: Specialized Experience is defined as: at least one year of professional pharmacy experience which includes dispensing medication, preparing pharmaceuticals, and providing training or oversight to pharmacy staff.
