About the Position: About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties

Make repairs by replacement of parts, fabrication of minor parts or repair of damaged or worn parts. Use hand tools to remove, disassemble, and replace automotive parts. Check work to make certain all necessary repair, modifications, or other actions required have been accomplished. Diagnose equipment malfunctions to correct operating problems. Ensure all engine components meet all operational parameters, tolerances, and safety factors.

• This position requires heavy lifting up to 45 pounds.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain a forklift license.
• Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period.
• THIS IS A TERM POSITION NOT TO EXCEED 2 YEARS. THIS APPOINTMENT MAY BE EXTENDED IN INCREMENTS OF 2 YEARS TO A MAXIMUM OF 8 YEARS. EXTENSIONS ARE NOT GUARANTEED AND ARE CONTINGENT UPON BUDGET AND WORKLOAD.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Mechanical Equipment Repairer (Direct Hiring Authority) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have performed common common repairs such as minor mechanical repairs to repair/replace fuel ignitions, mechanical and electrical system components as well as mechanical and electrical system components. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work assignments involve standing and working on concrete and asphalt for long periods, climbing, reaching, sitting, laying, bending, and occasionally working in cramped, awkward positions. Continuously uses hand and arm dexterity. Pulls, pushes, and lifts items weighing up to 45 pounds. For heavier items, two or more workers lift or move. Working Conditions: Works inside in warehouse shops that are occasionally hot, cold, damp or drafty. Works outside frequently in all types of weather. Subject to cuts and abrasions when using tools and is exposed to grease, oil, dirt, acids, paints, etc. Must observe existing safety rules related to wearing of protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes and wearing of helmets and earplugs assisting crane operator.
