This position is part of the Department of Energy, Office of International Affairs, Office of Multilateral Climate and Clean Energy Engagement. As a Supervisory International Relations Specialist, you will be responsible for providing technical advice and day-to-day coordination of strategies and initiatives related to multilateral climate and clean energy, and related deployment initiatives.

- This position does not support 100% remote work. You will be required to report physically to the official reporting worksite as specified by the supervisor, but no less than 2 days per pay period.

- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
- This position has been designated as CRITICAL and requires a security clearance at the "Q" level. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain this clearance; failure to do so may result in separation from federal service.
- New supervisors/managers are required to serve a one-year probationary period and are required to complete 80 hours of supervisory training of which 40 hours must be completed during your first year as a supervisor.
Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: major or equivalent, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in international law and international relations, political science, economics, history, sociology, geography, social or cultural anthropology, law, statistics, or in the humanities; or 12 semester hours in one of the above disciplines and 12 semester hours in statistics/quantitative methods.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, or a combination of related courses totaling at least 24 semester hours, in one or more of the social sciences, or in the humanities, as shown in above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
OR
Experience: four years of appropriate experience in one or more of the fields listed above in work associated with international organizations, problems, or other aspects of foreign affairs.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-14) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:
Collaborating with intra-agency, interagency, or international teams, working groups, or committees to assure Department of Energy and U.S climate change and clean energy multilateral engagement policy and technology interest are carried out and supported by other participants.
Developing or implementing the goals, objective, strategies, or outcomes for multilateral climate and energy engagement activities that promote U.S. energy security, economic, and environmental interests.
Establishing working relationships with international organizations, governments, or other stakeholders to promote multilateral climate change and clean energy policy and technology initiatives.
Implementing programs for the office by partnering with Department of Energy labs and other entities in areas that include but are not limited to international climate and economic modeling/forecasting, as well as policy- and technology-based reports on clean energy.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
