About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance. We provide worldwide on-site maintenance services, aircraft crash analysis, lubricating oil analysis, and chemical, metallurgical and training support.

Duties

Operate the Whirl Tower by performing aerodynamic balancing test and documentation on the UH-60A rotor blades. Complete a daily inspection according to Operator Procedures to safely operate the whirl tower facility. Measure and records the track and pitching moments of each blade with respect to a master reference blade. Replace deteriorated or missing filler and repairs voids on advanced composite blades where authorized to attain smooth surfaces. Repair process involves induction of nitrogen into blade under pressure, then sealing blade installing a BIM indicator which will detect any leakage. Perform repair/overhaul of rotor blades.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires a pre-appointment physical examination and meet established hearing and vision test.
  • Must obtain and maintain a certification to operate the Whirl Tower by performing dynamic balancing tests and documentation on the UH-60L, CH-47 FWD/AFT main rotor blades on both towers within 1 year of appointment.
  • This position requires a Personnel Security Background Check (Tier 1).

Requires climbing stairs, operation of elevator to reach platform 65 feet off ground Tower 1 and 85 feet off ground Tower 2. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in shop areas and occasionally on flight line. Exposed to oil, grease, and cleaning solvents. Exposed to hazard of parts and components being moved through working areas by hoists and dollies. Subject to work in or around noise-hazardous area. As a test cell operator, works in an instrumented control room and utilizes a passenger elevator to go to top level platform to attach rotor blades and make blade adjustments. Work inside the Whirl Tower employee is exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. Outside may work in hot or cold weather. They are frequently exposed to possibility of receiving cuts, bums, bruises and strains while repairing, positioning, adjusting and moving blades and are exposed to skin irritations from acids, fluids and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the mechanics follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eye-glasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, and clothing. Safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or used and may be worn or used for long periods.
