About the Position: This position assists in maintenance, repair and inspection of ISO containers operates and performs maintenance and repair on material handling equipment, loads/unloads explosives and inert materials into/out of railcars, trucks, and loading docks and operates electric, gasoline or diesel powered fork lifts.

Duties

Operate material handling equipment such as; Forklifts capable of lifting loads up to 25,000 pounds, 50,000 lb. Rough Terrain Container Handler, 118.5 Ton Superstacker, 5 Ton Yard Tractor, and Commercial Tractor. Operate material handling equipment to load and unload hazardous and inert material in and out of railcars, trucks, and loading docks. Operate electric, gasoline, and diesel-powered forklifts for loads up to 25,000 pounds, Rough Terrain Container Handling (RTCH) equipment up to 50,000 lbs. to load/unload/store/stack MILVANS and International Standard Organization (ISO) containers. Inspect material handling equipment and attachments and perform preventive maintenance. Maneuver mobile equipment within close tolerances when moving loads. Ensure containers/cargo meet the maximum weight allowable for the mobile equipment being operated in accordance with rules regulations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing.
  • This position requires an Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AA and E) Security Certification/Screening in accordance with AR 190-11.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Ability to Operate Safely (Non-motor Vehicles)Operation of Motor VehiclesWork Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: This position performs work on hard surface and gravel in situations that require standing, stooping, bending, walking, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Operator is subject to strain caused by vibrations of the equipment and from jerking and jolting motions while lifting and moving containers. Occasionally performs work on other than hard surfaces and lifts and carries parts, equipment and items weighting up to 75 pounds. Strenuous effort may be required when connecting the tractor and trailer. Considerable eye, hand, and foot coordination is required to produce the desired movements while watching the load and its clearance with other objects. Working Conditions: This position normally works outside, sometimes in inclement weather. Work areas may be dirty, noisy, and fumes present from vehicles. Exposed to dirt, dust, paint, and grease. Subject to cuts, bruises, burns, shock, and strains. May be required to wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations.
