The VA Loma Linda Healthcare System is currently recruiting for a Utility Systems Operator to work in Facility Management Service, Loma Linda, CA. The primary purpose of the Utility Systems Operator (USO) is to ensure the safe operation of the facility's centrally located boiler and chiller plant within Loma Linda VA Medical Center.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Applies complete and comprehensive knowledge of the operations, operational maintenance and repair program of high-pressure steam-generating plant eg. multi-fuel fired power boilers. Additionally, Monitors plant status with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer system.
Skilled in the procedures necessary to start, stop, operate and maintain a power boiler facility, in either manual or automatic mode, to meet the steam demands of the facility.
Ability to fire high-pressure boilers with natural gas, fuel oil, or other steam plant operating experience that can be demonstrated to correlate with boiler plant operations.
Skilled in the use of tools, equipment and material required to calibrate, adjust maintain and repair boiler and burner safety devices.
Performs monitoring, maintenance and repair on centralized multiple-zoned air conditioning systems.
Comprehensive knowledge of plant piping systems in order to by-pass equipment or components in order maintain steam service during unusual conditions.
Utilizes skill and knowledge of water treatment procedures and analysis using standard test procedures such as sampling and testing condensate, boiler water, feed water.
Basic computer skills using window and windows-based systems.
Knowledge of the operations, operational maintenance and repair program for all boiler safety devices, all associated auxiliary equipment, piping systems, control systems, burner management systems with interlocks, water treatment and fuel systems.
Monitors make-up feed water consumption for excessive use and notifies appropriate staff.
Monitors medical air compressors and associated equipment i.e. controls air compressors, medical vacuum pumps and dental vacuum fans.
Monitor the city water pressure alarm and alarm panels for 6 emergency diesel generators, and the main electrical switch.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: May be required to lift weight up to 100 pounds. Heavy weights are handled by hoists or cranes and worker may be assisted by other workers. Heavy exertion may be required for short periods of time. May be required to sit, stand, kneel, crouch, stoop or work in awkward positions for long periods of time. Work requires close attention of eyes and coordination of hands.
