About the Position: As the Department of Defense's lead laboratory for the development of medical countermeasures against chemical, biochemical, and other acute non-kinetic battlefield injuries, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) is increasingly called upon to provide expertise and consultative services related to medical chemical defense research and to the medical management of chemical casualties.
Duties
You will be responsible for implementing and managing the USAMRICD environmental program through the development of written guidance and the review of SOPs, research protocols, work requests and similar documents .
Identify potential pollution prevention measures, non-compliance avoidance actions, and/or information feedback systems that enable operational efficiencies, reduce pollution, increase situational awareness, and/or decrease costs.
Evaluate facilities for regulatory compliance and prepares reports of evaluation and recommendations for corrective action.
Provide environmental program support and assistance to Institute management and personnel in training, regulated waste handling and disposal, strategic planning, compliant facilities operations and maintenance,.
Identify regulatory requirements applicable to operations and documents/updates this information in a comprehensive internal inspection program that ensures the environmental program. is in compliance with garrison, state, local and federal laws.
Provide oversight on hazardous waste training for all applicable personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Secret Security clearance is required.
- One-year probationary period may be required.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-12
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Administer and governing laws and/or regulations of a regulatory environmental research program; 2) Conduct mitigation or restoration site planning, monitoring and/or assessment; 3) Develop and modify chemical defense and medical research operations and functions.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-9/11/12).
