About the Position: Position is located at US Army Combined Arms Center, Office of the Inspector General, Fort Leavenworth, KS.
NOTE: Entrance on Duty will be no sooner than January 14, 2024.
Duties
As a Inspector General (IG), you will perform duties to include but not limited to the following:
Investigate and resolve cases of alleged improprieties and misconduct by military personnel and DoD civilians.
Provide technical guidance and advice to staff members in conducting investigations, inquiries and assistance reviews.
Responsible for measuring efficiency and effectiveness of command activities, placing emphasis on identifying areas of fraud, waste and abuse.
Initiate and maintain case records in accordance with regulatory guidance.
Conduct/lead seminar and sensing sessions using question/answer techniques and facilitating discussion on various issues.
Exercises first line supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Temporary Duty (TDY) may be required up to 5%.
- Must successfully complete a three-week U.S. Army Inspector General Course within 90 days of employment for continued employment.
- Must take the Inspector General's oath of office.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain U.S. Army Inspector General School Certification.
- Must re-certify as an Army Inspector General every five (5) years.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. NOTE: This position is a developmental position and may be filled at the GS-11 or GS-12 level. If selected at the GS-11 level the incumbent may be non-competitively promoted pending time-in-grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the next level/grade duties. The full performance level for this position is GS-12.
GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) providing assistance with conducting inquiries or investigations on allegations and complaints, and 2) determining cause of problems, identify appropriate solutions and recommend corrective action. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Justice, Paralegal, and Legal Studies, or other related field. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts.
GS-12 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) leading complex and sensitive investigations, inquires, or special studies on allegations and complaints; 2) conducting collection of sworn and unsworn testimony and evidence; and 3) preparing detailed written reports to present development of information, evidence, or findings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Education: For the GS-12 level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement for GS-12: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
Time in Grade Requirement for GS-11: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
