This position is located in the Department of the Chief Program Officer, Office of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) in Vinton, IA. NCCC is a full-time, team based residential program for young adults ages 18 to 26. The program is designed to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based national and community service. Corps members are assigned to 1 of 4 campuses located in Aurora, CO; Sacramento, CA; Vicksburg, MS; and Vinton, IA.

Duties

The Member Development Associate is a part of a team that assists Corps Members to gain life skills and career development. The Member Development Associate provides a variety of administrative and technical functions to support Corps Member development. Primary responsibilities include: Conducts research to identify learning and developmental resources. For example, workshops, on-line courses, brochures, websites. Maintains and disseminates reference and resource material and information. Serves as a point of contact for reference materials and other resources concerning: college admission, financial aid, college credit exams, career opportunities, resume' writing, and GED, GRE, and SAT requirements. Reviews Corps Member Individual Learning Plans and works with other Campus staff to assist Corps Members in the accomplishment of identified goals. Informs Corps Members on GED State requirements and, as necessary, handles all testing arrangements to include working with Headquarters Resource Managers to make sure adequate funds are available for testing purposes. As needed, connects Corps Members with on Campus resources to prepare for the test. Presents training on a variety of topics which may include: resume' writing, and interviewing techniques, workplace professionalism, social media awareness. Attends project close out meetings or group discussions with Corps Members who have recently completed a service project to identify the skills that were gained from having worked on the project and, based on that information, identify additional Corps Member development needs. Locates and coordinates external vendors to present life skills training on topics that might include subjects like: public speaking, job searching, diversity, conflict management, and budgeting. Provides logistical support for trainings and events and supports the Region's Assistant Program Director for Training with training schedules. Offers guidance with career planning and life skills to help ensure that Corps Members have viable post-service goals and plans for accomplishment. Reviews Corps Member draft resume's and suggests editorial or content changes. Provides administrative support activities like: preparing correspondence, maintaining tracking systems, creating spreadsheets, and maintaining files.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (paid, unpaid, or volunteer work) comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the upper range of the NY-01 pay band, which would be at or equivalent to, the GS-06 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience must include all of the following: 1) work experience conducting research to identify reference materials and resources for a specific topic(s); and 2) presenting workshops or seminars to groups (15 or more attendees); and 3) work experience providing administrative support to an organization that included: preparing correspondence, tracking information, and creating spreadsheets; and 4) experience providing general guidance to others like a camp or school counselor or assistant counselor, a mentor, school or military career placement advisor. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.

Education

You may also qualify based on a combination of education and experience, if applicable. If you are qualifying based on education alone, you must have one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement as defined by being in the upper third of your graduating class; or possessing a 3.0 GPA or higher over four years of education; or possessing a 3.5 GPA or higher during final 2 years of education. Such education must be from an accredited institution and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. You must submit an unofficial copy of your college transcript. You must submit evidence that any education completed in a foreign institution is equivalent to U.S. educational standards. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
