About the Position: The Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) position is located with Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU), William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, Texas.
Duties
Utilize office automation software applications to compile various reports and documents.
Annotate entries when engaged with patients using automated health care systems.
Obtain factual information to collect, update, and correct patient information during each visit and/or contact.
Resolve customers' complaints of an administrative nature.
Coordinate the scheduling of patient’s appointment to avoid conflicts in different clinic schedules.
Maintain patient's records according to regulation ensuring each entry contains proper patient and health care provider identification.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement.
- Incumbent will be required to be screened for applicable immunizations.
- This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination
- Probationary period of one year may be required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Performing receptionist, recordkeeping, and miscellaneous clerical duties in a medical office setting. 2) Maintaining control of administrative filing system for records. 3) Utilizing various medical software applications, to check-in/check-out patients, schedule appointments, retrieve data and/or prepare correspondence or reports This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
