Duties

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: All of the positions perform a wide variety of tasks involved in the development of cartographic products. These tasks include, but are not limited to: field data collection; data compilation and editing; and map production (manual or digital, grayscale and/or color). Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) technical support and GPS/GIS equipment operation and maintenance. These positions also routinely add data to and modify relational databases that are associated with spatial databases. In addition, one position will also provide remote sensing technical assistance.
Physical Demands: The work requires long periods of sitting in front of computer terminals. Some prolonged bending, crouching, lifting (up to 50 pounds), climbing and reaching are required to perform routine hardware maintenance and move equipment. Digitizing data requires extended periods of standing, sitting and stretching over large drafting tables while recording/measuring map data with a computer mouse.
Working Conditions: The work is usually performed in an office setting. Outdoor field work in varied climatic and terrain conditions is required.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/15/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
A. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience in cartography or in a related field such as remote sensing or geography, where the work required similar knowledge or skills. Examples of work at the GS-6 grade level include: Producing maps that meet customer needs, running GIS analyses resulting in statistical summaries, importing data into GIS format. You must include hours per week worked. -OR-
B. EDUCATION: Must have successfully completed one year of graduate study (18 hours) in a field that is directly related to the work of the position such as cartography, relevant mathematical and statistical sciences, or related sciences, e.g., physical geography, photogrammetry, geophysics, or geodesy, or a related discipline. IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify you must submit a copy of your transcripts. We cannot determine eligibility without this information. C. EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: Must have a combination of specialized experience as described in A above and education as described in B above which total at least one year. For example, 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the experience) and 9 graduate level semester hours of related education (50% of the education), would qualify an applicant for this position. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
