Duties
Develops, updates, modifies, and improves interpretive products and materials, such as exhibits, guidebooks, handouts, wayside signs, other signs, multi-media shows, slide shows, digital content, etc.
Engages the public through a variety of formal and informal presentations (e.g., tours, demonstrations, events, lectures, multi-media shows, slide shows, structured and impromptu talks, etc.
Develops briefings, lectures, structured talks, information for impromptu talks, guided tours, and other presentations about the natural, cultural, and historical resources of the site.
Articulates and communicates assignments, projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and program issues under review, including deadlines and time frames for completion.
Coaches the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques. Provides advice on work methods, practices, and procedures. Assists the team members in identifying solutions.
Reviews data and trends and analyzes information to make recommendations regarding short and
long-range planning and management of recreation and visitor services.:
Oversees fee collection activities to include accounting for funds and maintaining records, submitting deposits and operating an electronic cash register.
Directs, manages, oversees, and coordinates visitor services functions and activities for the site to include, but not limited to: overseeing the operation of visitor facilities and information desks, drafting plans for visitor operations, etc.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: Have at least one year of experience (equivalent to at least the GS-7 level or pay band in the Federal service) that includes performing the following duties: Managing outdoor recreation management related projects; supervising crews or individuals performing land management type work; assessing and performing maintenance on outdoor recreation facilities such as trailheads, campgrounds, or trail systems.

EDUCATION: Have 2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education, or a master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation. Degrees related to this position include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources related to duties performed by a Park Ranger. COMBINATION of EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Transcripts MUST be provided.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
Physical Demands: The work is performed mostly outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces, or working on ladders. The position requires physical exertion such as, but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain or inclines, standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching and stooping, and digging, hiking, lifting, biking, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work may involve early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working on holidays. It can require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads.
Work Environment: Most work will be performed out of doors, in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations. Work may involve occasional overnight stays in recreation sites staying in tents or trailers with limited or no communications or utilities. Indoor duties are performed in a normal office setting, or in unheated maintenance shops and buildings.
