About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Directorate of Exec.Hospital Safety at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Eisenhower in Augusta, Georgia. The primary purpose is to protect personnel and prevent the damage or loss of property within Army Medical hospitals, government leased facilities, and other DHA activities.
Duties
Maintain records and prepares required reports pertaining to security functions, including a daily staff journal.
Maintain continued surveillance over areas within the facility.
Investigate abnormal conditions and incidents possibly detrimental to hospital property, patients, visitors, and staff.
Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering restricted areas which contain hazardous materials that could affect public health or public safety, or that contain controlled substances.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- All employees are required to be screened for applicable immunizations.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
- This position requires you to be able to qualify semi-annually with assigned firearm and carry a firearm.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime, both scheduled and unscheduled, may be required as directed.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Incumbent must successfully complete and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and protective equipment, and be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- This position is designated as Mission Essential.
- LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Employee must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check.
- This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
- This position requires the ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Basic Life Support may be required.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing armed guard services to preserve peace and order; utilizing law enforcement equipment such as: restraining devices (handcuffs), safety equipment (L.C., fire extinguishers), two way communication devices, and motor vehicle to restrain individuals, communicate with emergency personnel, and patrol around the facility; applying security policies and procedures related to anti-terrorism, physical security, legal authority and jurisdiction, sabotage and espionage, and emergencies in protecting federal property; writing security reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
