About the Position: This position is located at Martin Army Community Hospital in Fort Moore, GA. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Set up, calibrate and troubleshoot pulmonary function and other respiratory diagnostic equipment. Administer life-preserving treatment using a variety of devices such as, Oxygen therapy, incentive spirometry, chest physiotherapy, etc. Observe the patient closely during treatment monitoring pulse oximetry and breathe sounds, assessing for abnormal vital signs or other changes in the patients' condition. Monitor and evaluate patient respiratory treatments done by other clinicians to ensure respiratory interventions are rendered as prescribed. Act as the consultant to the medical and nursing staff in order to meet prescribed therapeutic outcomes. Participate in emergency treatment, performing life-saving actions as suctioning and endotracheal intubation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 30 pounds is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating respiratory therapy patients; and setting up, operating and/or maintaining respiratory therapy equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as respiratory therapy. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. NOTE: Graduate from an AMA approved program by the National Board of Respiratory Care in Respiratory Therapy and a license as a Respiratory Therapist is preferred/recommended but not required for referral purposes.
