This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to inspect Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE), engines, components, systems, subsystems, associated components, and support equipment undergoing repair; and the performance of mechanics, during and upon completion of repair, to determine acceptability in terms of compliance with established quality standards. Trains reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTIES: 1: Conducts inspections of powered and non-powered AGE, associated components, and support equipment on flight line or in the shops undergoing repair or modification. 2: Makes shake down inspections of AGE, associated components, and support equipment received for repair or modification. 3: Performs quality audit verification inspection of equipment and components repaired or modified. 4: Performs or observes tests of AGE (components and support equipment). Inspects technical files maintained within division activities for condition, completeness and accuracy. 5: Determines the final condition of all powered and non-powered support equipment repaired by a maintenance activity or removed from storage. Periodically inspects maintenance areas for safety hazards and violations.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE FAMILY. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS WORK INSPECTOR with little or no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Comprehensive knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to powered support systems. 2. Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel and gasoline engines. Knowledge of the operation of emergency generator power systems. Knowledge of regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation. 3. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints, and technical orders, and to evaluate compliance, adequacy of repairs and proper installation of parts and modifications. 4. Knowledge of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and technical orders. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security. 5. Knowledge of and practical application of Total Quality Management (TQM) principals and processes. 6. Knowledge of and ability to use and manage functional data bases. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: Other significant facts pertaining to this position are: Required to maintain a valid driver's license. Performs other related duties as assigned. Complies with security regulations, directives, and policies. Maintains and controls tools. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: May work inside or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside work may involve exposure to bad weather, rain or snow, or wet or icy conditions. Both inside and outside, frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, bums, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment, and is exposed to the possibility of receiving bums and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eye glasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Performs work which involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Must frequently lift and carry items weighing up to about 40 pounds and lift heavier items using jacks, hoists, or helpers. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
