This position is located in the Pentagon Generator Shop Program. This program is a 24 hour 7 day per week operation and requires the incumbent to work a rotating shift. The work includes operation and maintenance of emergency generators ranging in size from 2 meggawatts to 100 kilowatts, high/medium/ low voltage switchgear, automatic transfer switches, transformers, UPS, battey stations and electrical distribution lines.

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Serves as working leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. Performs work in connection with the maintenance and repair of electrical power generating equipment. On night shifts, holidays and weekends receive and respond to calls to the electrical shop pertaining to electrical problems throughout the building. Assures safety and housekeeping rules are followed and that tools are properly used.

Qualifications

Your background must demonstrate a full range of Electric Power Controller tasks including monitoring, operating, maintaining and repairing uninterruptable power supplies (UPSs), power distribution units (PDUs), and building generator systems that are diesel powered electric generators ranging from 6 KW to 2 MW, 110/240 volt portable light carts to 13,800 volt 3 phase alternating current systems; and starting and placing generators in service as required by the demand for power, adjusting voltage regulators, equalizing the phase voltage, synchronizing the generators, adjusting governors, and closing the circuit breakers. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability To Lead Or Supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Operations of generators Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Requires prolonged sitting, periods of walking, standing and stooping, and lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is both indoors in a well lighted, comfortable work space; and outdoors in unheated buildings, outdoor transformer stations, incumbent is exposed to cuts, bruises, shock and burns from high voltage equipment, acids, etc. All qualifications requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.
