This position serves as a one of the electronics technicians on the team and provides full-service support of radio operations and electronic systems within Yellowstone National Park.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Assist higher graded technicians in radio and electronic systems design through consultation with other specialists, radio users, consultants, etc. Assist with project planning in accordance with Park, NPS and DOI guidelines and plans.
Install, fabricate, overhaul, modify, perform maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, and replace defective modules and component parts of dispatch radio consoles, portable and mobile radio units, fixed base stations, and mountain top and portable repeaters. You will frequently troubleshoot and repair mobile radios installed in government vehicles.
Program portable, mobile, and base station radio communication equipment with the use of computer software to set functional operating features of the system. Install channeling programs in radio equipment which include Portables, Mobiles and Fixed stations. You will install saved and standard configurations on radio equipment for the various Park operations so as to maintain consistency, simplicity and reliability for employees.
Under the guidance of higher graded technicians, you will schedule the preventive maintenance workload, coordinate flights, vehicles, and hike-in missions needed to access equipment. All work requests outside of routine inspection, testing, and maintenance will be reviewed for evaluation and assignment by your immediate supervisor or higher graded technicians. This must be done dynamically as priorities quickly change and a flexible work schedule is required.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: . Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-08 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Analyzing a variety of telecommunications conditions associated with the maintenance, support, troubleshooting, and repair of wireless and wired telecommunications systems (e.g., systems compatibility, Radio Over Internet Protocol (RolP) circuits, switches, distribution, microwave RF links, RF interference, and networking including Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field of study directly related to the work of this position and I do not have the experience described in A. If this information is not available use 18 semester hours for one year. NOTE: If you are using anything other than 18 semester hours to equal 1 year of graduate education you MUST submit proof of the number of hours your school has determined to be 1 full year of graduate school.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, 6 months of specialized experience such as described in 'A' above, (50% of the required specialized experience) and 18 semester credits of appropriate undergraduate study (50% of the undergraduate study as in 'B' above).
