Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The Electronics Technician is responsible for comprehensive technical support for all complex and specialized automated equipment systems necessary to support a totally automated CMOP. Some major duties: Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs computer equipment Reviews preliminary and final plans, specifications and cost estimates of projects, by reviewing electrical/mechanical drawings prepared by the architect engineers. Develops installation guidelines for system problem areas Works closely with contractors during installation and modifies equipment system specification, if required to adapt the equipment to the environment. Determine the action necessary in the development/implementation of the preventive maintenance/repair of highly complex CMOP automated equipment and utilities Write contract specifications required for system maintenance programs Directs electricians, contractors, utility workers and others to operate systems so as to cause minimal inconvenience to CMOP operations. Conducts annual training for new employees Makes recommendations regarding proposals on change orders, price negotiations, contractors, coordination of utility shutdowns Troubleshoots equipment problems and takes appropriate corrective action to restore device(s) to operational level. Recommends, develops, and implements or redesigns operation procedures to reduce breakdowns, eliminate hazards, or enhance accuracy/reliability. Performs other related duties as assigned. To qualify for this position all applicants must meet one of the following: Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-10) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes: (1) Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. (2) Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. At this level applicants must have the ability to identify and cross reference required components. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~ Education: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education, that is directly related to the work of the Electronics Technician position, such as electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements/Work Environment: Physical demands are high. Work involves various situation where the technician is required to perform bench work and/or field work that requires him/her to be sitting, walking, standing, bending, lifting and pushing. The technician often handles devices weighing up to 40 pounds and is sometimes called upon to handle objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds. Contract work requires frequent inspections, which may involve considerable walking, bending, stooping, crawling, climbing, reaching, and other physical movements. The technician is often called upon to perform duties in areas which require special safety precautions in order to avoid injury to self or others, Lockout/Tagout, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in toxic areas and harnesses when on elevated platforms. Work involves various conditions and environments from working in an office, production plant floor, or on a construction site. The Technician is exposed to a wide variety of temperatures, hazardous conditions, and potentially dangerous situations involving toxic or hazardous substances. The Technician is expose dto high voltage electrical lines and equipment. Operation of machinery and equipment may produce dangerous situations that can result in loss of limbs. The Technician is often required to perform duties in sterile environments that would require him/her to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and perform duties in areas where special precautions must be taken in order to safeguard his/her person while at the same time protecting the product from infection and contamination.
