About the Position: This Exhibits Maker position is located in the Directorate of Plans Training Mobility and Security Division on Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. VISION: A team of flexible and responsible professionals, dedicated to providing the best possible service to units and individuals serving our Nation.

Duties

Plans, lays-outs, fabricates and assembles parts and components to build training devices from blueprints, rough sketches, detailed or skeletal plans, work specifications or verbal discussions and consultations with the customer. Uses electric-heloarc or oxyacetylene and MIG welder, and most types of conventional machine and hand tools (metal saws, drills, metal lathes, files, riveting machines, etc.), to cut, shape and form metal parts and components and joins together. Operates and maintains a metering mix machine 80- and 440-ton computerized injection molders, changes molds and adjusts for proper material mixing ratios, loads required automated molding program. Operates and maintains woodworking equipment, computerized routing tables and hand tools in the fabrication of training aids and devices. Operates and maintains graphics production software (i.e., Adobe Production Suite, Corel DRAW, Summa) and hardware (i.e., printers, plotters, cutters, 3D printers and CNC Routers) to support training aids, device and graphic training aid fabrication. Operates and maintains a paint booth and painting equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Exhibits Maker~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the full range of Exhibits Maker which include fabricating research and prototype models; assembles parts into complete models. I am skilled in utilizing various woodworking tools and machines, such as lathe, planer, DeWalt bench saw, table saw to construct scale and full-sized models; compute dimensions, make templates and patterns, and select appropriate tools and techniques. I am able to perform duties which involves mixing and blending ingredients together by hand or machine in proper sequence and proportions. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifts heavier items using jacks, hoists, or helpers. . WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in lighted and heated shops with concrete floors and with power machinery such as wood saws, metal lathes, or welder. Is subject to health hazards which could result in permanent disability because of cumulative effects of inhaling harmful fumes, glass particles, chemicals, paints, etc., as well as cuts from operation of machinery and burns from ovens or chemical solvents. Wears protective clothing such as aprons, gloves, safety glasses and respirator, fresh air pump, surgical gloves, safety shoes, welding hood, and uses fans to protect against dust, vapors and fumes.
