About the Position: The Crane Operator assumes responsibility for crane operations, responsible for warehousing operations. equipment operations, and motorized vehicle operations within the Marietta Repair Station.

Duties

Operates a 50-ton, 110-foot boom diesel powered pedestal crane, a 130-ton, 50-foot boom truck crane, and a 7-ton, 30-foot boom mobile crane. Responsible for warehousing operations at the Marietta Repair Station. Labels and stores hazardous wastes in preparation for disposal or recycling. Uses forklifts or cranes to organize materials stored in yard. Drives mobile truck cranes from Marietta Repair Station to other projects in the Huntington District.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses associated with this position.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid commercial driver's license to perform duties of position issued by the state of residence.
  • Heavy physical lifting is required of this position.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical exam due to the physical requirement of the position.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a current mobile crane operator's license including all requirements of the District Licensing Policy.
  • Incumbent is required to wear the appropriate uniform for this position.
  • Duties require extended overnight travel to load, transport and unload supplies and materials at various District projects and to operate mobile crane to assist Repair Fleet.
  • Travel outside District boundaries may also be required.
  • This position is covered under the Civilian Drug Testing Program.

Operates a diesel-powered pedestal, boom truck crane, or boom mobile crane and determine what moves the crane will need to make in order to accomplish the work. Responsible for warehousing operations. Operate pick-up-trucks, dump truck and other motorized equipment. Perform primary level maintenance on diesel engines and light plants. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble shooting (Electronic Equipment)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements as identified in this position description. Duties include but are not limited to pushing and pulling bars and levers, winding cranks and winches, lifting and holding lines, climbing ladders and steep stairways, working in confined spaces, and working on steep and uneven ground. Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 pounds with the assistance of one other person. Tasks requiring the ability to lift 50 pounds while working alone include but are not limited to lifting and carrying a five gallon can of paint, cleaning liquid or hydraulic oil. A task requiring lifting and carrying 100 pounds with the assistance of one other person includes but is not limited to moving furniture and lifting 80 lb. bags of cement. Working Conditions: Work is completed in all types of weather including inclement weather of extreme heat and cold. Incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises and shock from cutting tools, moving parts and electric current (440 volts). Incumbent is subject to dangers including but not limited to drowning and injury from falls and loads on overhead cranes. Incumbent utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions which may be heavy and uncomfortable. Incumbent must be capable or working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors and sandblast particles utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions. Work involves exposure to the possibility of injury caused by swinging loads or from the crane overturning.
