Duties

This position is located in the Facilities Department at a Federal Prison Camp. The incumbent serves as the Facility Manager of the institution and is responsible for the planning, direction, and management of all maintenance, repair, alterations, and construction projects. The incumbent manages a workforce comprising of civilian and inmate workers. Incumbent is responsible for the organization, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the construction program of the institution. Resolves all difficult or technical problems arising on a day-to-day basis in connection with the operation of the department. This includes responsibility for the supervision of existing and new construction projects and of repair and improvement projects. Renovation construction projects typically involve funding ranging from several thousand dollars to in excess of one million dollars. The incumbent is responsible for the overall supervision of all utilities at the institution. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

How Do I Qualify for this Position? To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: A Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M., if related. Graduate Education: Major study - engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Managing a maintenance program for office or apartment building complexes, hospitals, recreation facilities, military or other special-purpose installations, including planning maintenance activities and developing preventive maintenance programs. Experience working with blue prints and specifications for proposed projects. Experience performing maintenance or construction work, including estimating material and labor costs for a variety of construction or maintenance projects, directing work operations, and maintaining appropriate contracts with organization (s) funding the project. Experience working with blue prints and specifications for proposed projects. Experience inspecting projects to evaluate progress and assure workmanship conforms to specifications. OR Have a combination of education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the major duties of this position as described above. Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.
