Duties
Complete assigned repairs under the guidance of a WG-10 automotive mechanic or supervisor
Remove, replace, adjust, or clean defective parts and components to conduct repairs
Assist with complex repairs involving major assemblies or systems such as engines and transmissions
Obtain standard parts using manuals or sample comparisons for components like water pumps and alternators
Use diagnostic equipment, onboard computers, and electronic analyzers to troubleshoot issues
Select appropriate tools and techniques to perform tasks
Make adjustments and settings according to specifications and manufacturer's manuals
Test completed repairs to ensure conformance with quality standards
Adhere to established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment
Utilize required safety equipment and clothing to prevent accidents and injuries
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
- Suitable for Federal employment
- Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical examination
- Must possess valid driver's license
- Bargaining Unit Position: Yes - Washington Area Metal Trades Council (WAMTA), AFL-CIO
Qualifications
There are no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform automotive mechanic duties, such as conducting basic automotive repairs, without more than normal supervision.
